From Fields to Kitchens
Living in different worlds provided a unique perspective that Laker and his family understood. These multiple viewpoints presented a rare opportunity to harness and bring about long-term, sustainable benefits. They envisioned a future of collaboration where vanilla farmers in Uganda expanded their access to fair trade opportunities in a global and complex market while gifting the world with one of the world’s favorite flavors-Vanilla. By establishing a link between their individual experiences of bee farming and that of vanilla farmers, Laker and family sought to reintroduce and implement environmentally friendly and sustainable practices that would ensure that “these seeds that feed” them do not disappear nor their quality compromised. Hive on I-5 Organics is more than just about helping people it's community.
It's also a nod to this endeavor of mutualism and a powerful relief to the tedious, back-breaking work of hand-pollinating the orchid Vanilla Plant.
This journey is more than just helping people, its community and the opportunity to be stewards of a hopeful and resilient world one bean at a time.
